Version 2: Live

Overview

The newly redeveloped HOT Export Tool was released LIVE on the 6th October 2015. Please login to the site with your OSM username and explore some of the new functionality, such as the use of [GeoNames] (http://www.geonames.org) to search for areas of interest and the Tree Tag to select specific features for export. The old HOT Export Tool can still be accessed through the following link.

The creation of the new HOT Export Tool would not of been possible without the generous grant of the Hewlett Foundation. So we would just like to acknowledge their support, which made it possible to hire Brian O'Hare the developer and Mhairi O'Hara the project manager. Testing and Feedback

The new tool went through a series of testing during the Alpha and Beta phase, but there is always room for improvement. Please continue to test the site and help us iron out any bugs we may have missed. Similarly please add any feature requests or enhancements you feel would greatly improve the HOT Export Tool to the GitHub repository issues. We would just like to say thank you to the whole community for their continued feedback and support.

Help Documentation

Detailed help documentation has been created and added to the site in order to help guide users through the various functionality offered as well as provide some insight into how the processes work. Please refer to this if you find yourself at a loss with some of the new features, although the new site has been developed to be intuitive so that hopefully you won't have to.

Version Changes

The changes made between the old and new HOT Export Tool were aimed at making the tool easier to use, more efficient and provide the user with the main functionality needed to export their OSM data in a number of geodata file formats. A full list of of the changes can be found below:

Data Updates

Upgrade:

• New tool updates the OSM data every minute
• Old tool updated the OSM data on average between 10-15 minutes

Login

Added:

• Login with OSM username
• Register email address when first sign up (a download link is sent when export is complete)

Create Export

Added:

Select Area

• Search area by place name or coordinates
• Zoom to selection
• Reset map
• Map scale bar

Export Details

• Coordinates of selected area (double check the right location and can line up a following export easier)
• Size of area exported
• List of feature tags selected (to check before re-running)

Export Options

• Publish loaded preset publicly
• Save feature selection privately
• Publish feature selection publicly
• Publish export publicly
