Opening Japanese voicebanks in non Japanese locales

UTSU can run on your computer regardless of your locale. However, if your computer doesn't use a Japanese locale, most Japanese-encoded voicebanks will not open properly. The easiest way to fix this is to convert Japanese voicebanks to Unicode encoding before trying to open them in UTSU.

Please note that you only need to convert the filenames to the proper encoding, not the contents of the files themselves. UTSU knows how to parse files in both SHIFT-JIS (the most common Japanese-language encoding) and Unicode.

Windows

Mac OS

Download the Unarchiver and use it to extract the archive file (.zip, .rar, etc.) of the voicebank you want to convert. Japanese-encoded voicebanks should automatically be converted to Unicode, allowing you to open them properly in UTSU.

Linux

First, you need the right software: unar. It extracts archives and converts the files.

Once you have the software downloaded, open the terminal in the same directory as your unextracted voicebank. In the terminal, use this command:

unar -e csShiftJIS <voicebank>

# Example: unar -e csShiftJIS 欲音ルコ♂連続音Ver.1.03.zip

Check the extracted folder. If you see no random characters, the conversion was successful and the bank can be opened in UTSU.
