• We also expect from students that they are comfortable with Python (intermediate level) and have basic knowledge of Git.

We also have a Gitter but not every mentor uses it (frequently at least). For most things email and GitHub issues are the recommended way.

Getting started with ETE

• Try first as an user: If you are new to ETE, download and install ETE. Go through the tutorial, tools documentation and cookbooks. Learn how to use it and get your hands dirty with the examples.

• Learn how to contribute to ETE: Read these guidelines and try to make small changes to the main code or documentation. You can even try to solve any open issue. Use git to track your changes and, if those are relevant, try sending a Pull Request.
