Any chance of this being re-looked at? It would be nice if the official SDL2 release re-implemented "real" HOM so players could see it for the first time in ages.

It works. I don't understand why this hasn't been merged yet.

I've been meaning to revisit this. The first time I looked at it I thought the code changes were too large, but it's been a while and I might have changed my mind. I really want this and medusa emu in. (I've been working on that too)

For reference, #695 was the earlier version of this, some of the comments there might be relevant, I'll repeat them here if I deem them to be.
