Sending out /announce messages

I've been trying to get my bot to /announce certain messages, but I've been unable to get it to actually do so in chat.

For example, this would simply return nothing in chat, but if I take out the /announce part, it will send the message through just fine.

I've tested with services like StreamElements, and they're able to send messages using announcements without a problem, so I'm unsure of what the holdup is here.

Just to confirm, yes the account I'm using for the bot is a moderator in the channel. I have also tried using apostrophes and quotations, with just regular messages like client.say(channel, "/announce test");

This isn't an answer, just a workaround until official support can be had.

Ran into this tonight as well, I ended up patching lib/commands.js to include an announce() function to get going for tonight's stream:

I have no idea why this ended up working when the default client.say( handler seems to also delegate messages starting in / to this._sendCommand as well, the only difference is that resolving immediately versions after an event. If anyone else does a patch like this, be sure to catch the promise returned because it'll most likely throw something.

Aside from that, somehow, this now works:

The announce command was added in tmi.js@1.9.0-pre.1 if you want to install and try that out.

I can't get the announce to work either with 1.9.,0-pre.1

Twitch removed /-commands in February of 2023. You need to use the Helix API to send the announcement now.
