BTW, if you meant a host that hasn't been provisioned yet, it can be either:

Perhaps it's best to avoid the whole term and be explicit in what we mean. |
My understanding would be "a host that I have provisioned and that's running (aka. I can SSH into it) but it does not have a purpose yet". Example: external DBs; I'd assume that they are setup on a "blank host"; meaning that you should not run external DBs on a host that acts as your mail server :D I agree with Ewoud that we should be more specific. |
Separate glossaries (like the one in Plannning_for_Project) are not very useful and cause a poor user experience. This is also supported by RH d/s stats: the glossary part of the guide had very few page views the last time I checked. So another +1 on finding a wording that's clear right at the moment when it's used. |
