BTW, if you meant a host that hasn't been provisioned yet, it can be either:

  • an unknown host - a host that isn't in Foreman's inventory (I saw this used)
  • a created host - a host that is in Foreman's inventory, but hasn't been built yet (not sure if this has been used)

Maybe this helps.

Or we could define what "blank host" means in the Glossary.

Perhaps it's best to avoid the whole term and be explicit in what we mean.

My understanding would be "a host that I have provisioned and that's running (aka. I can SSH into it) but it does not have a purpose yet". Example: external DBs; I'd assume that they are setup on a "blank host"; meaning that you should not run external DBs on a host that acts as your mail server :D

I agree with Ewoud that we should be more specific.

Separate glossaries (like the one in Plannning_for_Project) are not very useful and cause a poor user experience. This is also supported by RH d/s stats: the glossary part of the guide had very few page views the last time I checked.

So another +1 on finding a wording that's clear right at the moment when it's used.
