We are opening this conversation to invite interest and feedback from the community on establishing a Communications Working Group.
Why: To make The Turing Way community work and our resources open for sharing, reuse and collaboration, it is important that our work, community infrastructure and decisions/updates from the project remain open and transparent.
This includes improving communications via different channels and inviting the community's involvement in making activities accessible, inclusive, and participatory for them, regardless of their background or level of expertise.
Note: We will test the process described for the Working Group in the draft put together by @aleesteele, reviewed by @malvikasharan and currently being edited by @KirstieJane in #3287
What needs to be done?
Understand if community members agree that this working group would be of interest to them
Invite ideas on the scope and role/responsibility of this group
What concerns do we have about setting up this working group?
Some ideas for where we think this WG can be instrumental:
Helping keep communications open for our community, especially around decision-making and changes such as in governance process, platform or domain transition and new activities.
Engaging with the community to gather feedback, ideas, and suggestions for improving The Turing Way resources and activities.
Making communication channels such as social media, newsletters and communications resources accessible to a diverse audience.
Supporting and celebrating contributions from diverse members with different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
Openly communicating about The Turing Way resources, infrastructure and recommendations for best practices within the data science community.
Highlighting or creating Q&A sessions for the community members with the skills and knowledge they need to engage with The Turing Way and data science/AI projects effectively.
Engage with the project delivery members in evaluating the impact of communications and events, and improve them to better serve the needs of the community.
