Stable releases?

Thank you for your work on this project!

It would be very helpful for us if you had releases, release branches, or some kind of versioning so we aren't all pulling directly from main which right now looks like the active development branch.

In fact the current development cycle is intended to achieve just that, a first tagged release. After working on taoPQ on and off for the last years and after finally getting enough experience with the implications of the binary format and the lack of support from PostgreSQL's side, I am now confident that I can finish up the last remaining details and, of course, add some documentation for all the basics (which is actually a requirement for semantic versioning). I hope to have some time soon to finish the documentation, a first pre-1.0-release will be tagged soon after.

This might also be the time for you and others to review the current state of taoPQ, run tests, give feedback, anything really.
