IMO, this game is fun if you access (create your account) right at the beginning and once the time flies by, people doesn't really want to join an old server, because is way harder to climb, like:

I don't want to start playing, this game is already full of death stars and if they want to attack me once i overcome n00b protection my game is over.

So... I'm asking for ideas to keep this game rolling, even past that point, like: why would you like to join once the server has 1,2,5,20 months ?

My first thought would be giving dark matter based on universe oppening date, if you get a month after, you can get X amount, if you get 2 months after, you get 2X, or 3X.

There should be seasons like in every other modern web browser MMO game. Each season results in glorious leaderboard and full reset.

Sounds like a good idea until you get your efforts destroyed haha. I don't like resets, I used to play "Archimage", that game had a way to reset it, but players were able to do it, basically you had 5 "colours" to play, good as white, smart as blue, power as red, space as green and evil as black....
So, evil players were able to join forces and start some sort of Dark Ritual, you got a message like: "A dark ritual has started by XXXX", so if you attack them you were able to cancel it. Still, you could have a server for years, months or for ever...
I normally played green and white (white was strong vs black), sounds a bit like pokemon.
Red > Green > Blue > White > Black > Red...

there could be 2 kind of leaderboards, one as default statistics and other like a seasonal board with tasks like most invested resources, most collected debris. that one shuffle on new month and grant rewards to players ranked at top 100 (an idea)

I think this idea is pointing in the right direction, but we need to go further deep to make it work. Stil, i'm not able to see its glitch :(.
