qBittorrent & operating system versions

4.6.4 x64
Windows 11 pro for workstation 23H2 (10.0.22631)

What is the problem?

When qbittorrent is running, internet connection doesn't work on main or other devices. Wireless devices state something like "connected to network, but no internet connection". If I close qbittorrent, everything works normally again. If I use a VPN (hard kill switch must be turned on), devices work normally. I have disabled DHT and changed connection limits (20, 20, 4, 4) but problem still persists. I have been using program for years with same set up and settings and have had no issues. I have been told by my ISP that there is no issue on their end.

Steps to reproduce

Run qbittorrent

Try to also disable μTP. I.e. set Connection > Peer connection protocol > TCP.

I observed the same behavior when using various P2P applications (BiglyBT, I2P, IPFS, multiple instances of qB). It took a few months before I figured out that my ISP was putting a limit on the number of connections on my connection because I have a private IP (the ISP does NAT). Of course, the ISP told me that everything is fine with them. Later I found out from him that he limits the number of connections to 1000. But his measurement of this number is somewhat strange, because my connection was already dying at 300 established connections (measured by a Mikrotik router)

Well, qB restricts the number of connections in Settings > Connection > Global maximum number of connections, which is 500 by default iirc.

But I also inclined to belive that this is one of:

  • A router is being overflown by P2P connections or has some restrictions set.
  • ISP line/hardware is being overflown by P2P connections or has some restrictions. Because lets be honest, ISPs always say that there is no issues on their end.

@a4h7 You may need to make use of global rate limits for downloading/uploading speed.

Try to disable DHT (it doesnt use torrent limits).
