This is not a bug, but a question.

Unfortunately, discussions are not enabled for this repository to ask there (maybe it would be a good idea to enable them).

So what is recommended GraphViz version to use for the (newest versions) build (on Win)?

[GitHub.PyGraphViz]: Install mentions "v2.46 or later", but that's old (lot of newer are available since I last checked): [GraphViz]: Download - Windows.

I'd like to have the latest possible version (in order to benefit from its features), but I'd avoid trial and error method due to incompatibilities.

As a record, I'm going to attempt with v2.50 (latest of v2.* series).

That's a good question. Until recently(-ish), Graphviz hadn't had many major releases but that has certainly changed: there have been 7 major releases in the last 2 years! In principle I'd expect pygraphviz to continue working with all versions greater than those specified in the install instructions, but there isn't exhaustive testing against all versions.
