Would like ability to sort, such as file names, pages i.e. if multiple files all page 1, 2, 3, etc.

This sounds like an extremely specific use case. Will this feature be relevant for anyone except you? You can always automate such specific use cases with bash+qpdf or python+pikepdf. And you can still pass filenames as arguments to pdfarranger if you need to do some manual fine tuning.

Let's give this 3 weeks. If nothing productive comes up it should be closed and tagged stale feature.

Microsoft drops them in whatever order they want.

When you drag multiple files from Windows explorer to pdfarranger you need to pay attention to where you click when you start the drag: you need to click on the first file (top left) if you want them added in pdfarranger in the same order as they are in explorer. Ie you can use windows explorer sorting options before you add the files to pdfarranger.

Another option would be to create a list of the files in notepad (in the order you want) and then copy and paste this list to pdfarranger.

Does that help your use case? Or what kind of sorting order do you think about? (name, size, modified..)

I have similar issue, where by the pages of each file is sorted in the correct order, but the file order is reverse of what was arranged in file explorer.
ex: file1, file2 (each with 4 pages)
in the arranger it would be
file2.p1-p4, then file1.p1-p4
Ideally it should be file1.p1-p4, then file2.p1-p4
Currently solution is to reverse all pages, then reverse file by file (selecting pages of each file and reverse those, move on to next file)
A sort option allowing sorting with filename+page would help a lot, or option for import file order .

I'd say a "sort option" would be handy. This is related to #936 too.
