Allow translating the web interfaces? #1814
Comments
It's been mentioned before (I can't find the link though). The concern was that translating the web interface automatically based on the locale of the person running onionshare, unnecessarily leaks information about that person - in the model whereby the person running onionshare is meant to be anonymous to the person using the web interface. Having said that, making it optional could be possible. |
Sorry, with automatic I was referring to guess client's language code for those who don't have the request English version of websites enabled in TOR, instead of host's language. Sorry about the misunderstanding. |
Ah, makes sense! I'm not sure what that would involve, since the web UI is not part of Tor Browser itself - but it's an interesting idea, thanks for opening it. |
I think it would be great to allow a manual change of the interface language. Automatic change of language does not work very well most of times, with a list of options you can choose between more languages. The automatic assignation tends to fall back to English, but maybe you prefer to use the French version if your language is not available. |
Hello,
Sorry if this has already been requested. My idea is to allow the host to set a specific language for each tab (for each hosted service), or to set it to automatic, so clients which have a language in TOR other than English can see the web interface in their native language (the translations for the website could be hosted on Weblate as well).
Thanks in advanced.
