I use Hunspell via memoQ, and it is marking the Portuguese word "e" as a misspelling. I checked the dictionary, and I do see the entry "e/ý".

Is this still actual? Have you asked at memoQ? I tried with Hunspell 1.7.2 and current LibreOffice dictionaries, it works fine:
echo "a norte e a nordeste" | hunspell -d pt_BR Hunspell 1.7.2 * * * * *
