question: mobile menu without particle menu

Hi,
I use a modul position for my menu on desctops because I need some overrides.
But for small displays I want to use the gantry mobile menu.
The mobile menu is in the offcanvas position but it does not appear. I think it is not "triggered" because I do not use the menu particle.
How can I solve my problem?

I added to my modul menu the class hidden-phone.
But the offcanvas menu only works if I add "menu" in my template too. I want to use the offcanvas without the menu. Is it possible?
