Purpose: (1) to improve SEO (ie. search engine rankings) to increase traffic by being having text-versions of super-specific names of scientific tools on Home Page (2) to convert more users

Design:

Greenshot 2024-02-28 12 09 11
See this Figma design

Changes:

  1. First, see above design.
  2. Add "Tool label" that are filterable by clicking on above Category tabs.
  3. Add "try now" tag on the "Tool label" which will link to (not-yet created) existing Tours feature for 4-6 popular tools; Tour should point to "simulated geolocation" (used in UseGalaxy.* button-dropdown feature) on website so user conversions can go to US, EU, AU, etc.

should point to "simulated geolocation" (used in UseGalaxy.* button-dropdown feature)

y'all could also consider using my.galaxy.training links, which let you redirect to tools (or any page!) on any galaxy server, and provides the feature to remember the last selected server, which can make sure users end up on a server they're used to, even if they're mis-geolocated.

It'd be cool if someone wanted to contribute the geolocation there to suggest which server should be used, if they don't have one set. (Or @bgruening's idea of suggesting a server that we know has that version installed, based on the GTN API we added for that which lists which versions are available in the community servers. We can of course prioritise the usegalaxy servers, and maybe additionally via TZ based geolocation :) )

(here i am not against a redirect choice page because we didn't know which galaxy a user wanted to visit, unlike the current one where they click "eu" and then get the redirect page xref #2408)
