There is no release for 3 years, and enough stuff has accumulated to make it worthwhile.

That's an interesting request. I'm happy to make a release, but may I first ask why? How do you use the fact that a particular commit is tagged as released? (In my own work, I always work against the master branch, which we keep stable.)
