Crash at OBJ open #3
Comments
MMVR is pretty much abandoned at this point. Perhaps try Google Blocks? I stopped actively developing MMVR when Blocks was released as I can't compete with a large company funded product. The reality is that I would love to continue developing MMVR, but it just doesn't make sense for me economically. People have to eat. |
Hi!
Google blocks is nice thing but it can not import any external models so is
completely useless in my case :(
Actually i can't find any suitable solution for .obj mesh editing in vr.
The best and most promising i found is Blender-XR but at the moment it have
only some basic tools in vr and they has to have better adaptation for vr.
So it is dramatically hard to use even blender-xr for complex mesh editing.

I didn't realize import still wasn't a thing in Google Blocks. That sucks. MMVR is mostly open source (there are a few paid dependencies from the Unity Store), so if anyone with the necessary skill wants to improve it they can. If Google Blocks hadn't been released, we'd probably be having a much different conversation as I likely wouldn't have stopped developing MMVR. I just have no desire to compete with the likes of Google. |
May be it will be good idea to make fork of
https://github.com/MARUI-PlugIn/BlenderXR
https://www.marui-plugin.com/blender-xr/
or start new project like this using Blender as powerful engine for VR
editor.
Unfortunately Blender XR seems to be very slow developing project. As i
understand it is developed by commercial company as crowdfunding project so
it is slow (stuck?). Actually nothing in about half year.
Also BlenderXR seems to have quite not that friendly controls or just very
basic at the moment. There is no typical tools/properties menus on one hand
to press with another hand. Only a few circle stype menus to select with
joystic which become not easy while adding more and more items to that
menus. Also VR editing need some specific tools like select with sphere or
quick drag-drop vertex instead of select with one tool and than drag with
another. So there is a lot things to do.
Anyway Blender in VR is very cool idea and Blender XR demonstrate it is
possible and how cool it can be if someone create good VR interface.
I've looked in to Blender XR code in hope to create a few simple tools i
need. But it seems i don't have enough experience with VR development and
blender architecture to modify it by myself. I need sort of quickstart for
that things to participate in Blender XR development.

I'm trying to load 1.5 mil triangles OBJ file generated by meshroom but after about 10 min of loading and eating all the 16Gb of RAM mesh maker vr crashes. The OBJ file itself is correct as any OBJ viewer can load and display it. Also opens fine in blender using about 1Gb RAM.
