I am on the arch linux version of chocolate doom, and timidity is not working. I am on the latest version of chocolate doom, and this is the only error I am getting:

Error loading midi: Couldn't open /tmp/timidity.cfg

The built-in version of Timidity used by SDL2 (which is what Chocolate Doom uses) doesn't support soundfonts.

I wrote a post on DoomWorld talking about soundfonts in Linux, hopefully this will help you figure it out. Feel free to ask questions (preferably there) if you still have problems.
