There should be documentation explaining how the users can filter results, and the syntax that it is accepted in the query filter. For instance, things like (-"path information") High-Level Trigger should be explained.

It would be good to link to the query_string in opensearch: https://opensearch.org/docs/latest/query-dsl/full-text/query-string/

A link to that page would be good, indeed, but a list of CODP-relevant tips would be the best.

@mattbellis and @jmhogan have run a session on finding things on the portal in our CMS OD workshops. They might have some good suggestions.

That sounds great. I'm putting them as assigned to this ticket. If they could add here the suggestions, I'll take care of putting them in the portal

Ok, admittedly, my knowledge of how to do things in the search bar in a savvy way are really limited. I'm not familiar at all with the trigger search example you've put here at the beginning.

Our lesson is based on understanding what the checkboxes on the left-hand-side menu mean:
https://cms-opendata-workshop.github.io/workshopwhepp-lesson-dataset-scouting/02-where-are-the-datasets/index.html

If we want to make a page for this type of info I can probably do that. But I'll have to do some learning with this query-string to give tips on fancy things in the search bar

@jmhogan no need to come up with examples but rather requests of what you or the WS participants would have liked to search🙂
@psaiz can check if they are doable.
Previously not much was possible but now it will be much better

Some examples that come to my mind:

  • Search all simulated datasets with a string in the name: e.g. starting with /DYJetToLL
  • Search all collision datasets with Electron in the first part
  • Search all software records with RDataFrame in the title
    • make the same search also in the json content i.e. dataset description
  • Limit the VM search to images only
