Deleting large trees of content can take a long time. At the very least we need to provide some visual feedback something is happening.
Something worth considering: deleting (near) individually client-side so we have better visibility at the browser level. Right now you send a request off to the ether and you have a long running request. What might be an interesting idea is that if you are so many levels from the top of the tree depends on the delete strategy. The theory being, the lower you go, the less this is a problem.
