The ECRMB, ECRMC, ECAPB are very important to list in the sentence selection window. These are the ones to use for an AP. They are produced from the activated track in routeman.cpp. The e.g. xxRMB from a GNSS receiver is not what we want. Issue 3801: It can be the control to change from "EC" to something else for the AP-sentences may not work. I'll check as well. I can see it's not reflected in routeman but I thought the muiltiplexer would take care of that. Likely seldom used since no complains have been seen? |

Rick, I see in https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=opencpn:manual_basic:set_options:connections#input_filtering this content, that I cannot understand: What filter column? I never see that text in the image, nor do I see a filter column. |

Another scenario where output filtering is required is forwarding AIS messages to different networks or to other consumers like AIShub. |

I saw that this morning and did some editing. Thanks! I wanted a Linux
groups screenshot, but maybe it’s overkill (Linux users are more capable
anyway 😆).
I eliminated output filter example 4 (temperamental Icom radio) as too
confusing. If you want it back, just revert the last edit.
Will you be able to make some connection diagrams? If not, I can take a
stab at it.
I’ve been editing advanced, as well.

Yes, I realized that when you said you had “found” the image.

John that would be great if you could make those connection diagrams as I
right now I am focused on cleaning up the tangled mess from our old manual.
I found 2000+ unlinked and unused screenshots and images and have moved
them all to a folder "unused_media_files" which can be accessed and
"Searched" for any missing screenshots when using Media Manager. Just a hit
for you on how to run this jalopy.

Rick, is there any diagram example I should emulate for style?

The old stable links section was deemed incorrect and we took it out.
I’m not sure what is correct…

We might want to add some type of troubleshooting or FAQ section for more

Ok, we can say that, and say what the stable link names actually are. Then
we say that serial connections in Linux *should* use these name in
preference over the unstable names, yes? How will the user know to use
which name for which port?

it was. As of today, stable links are basically created automatically

Thanks Rick. As you’ve said, it’s not been an easy task. We all have our
knowledge limits, and it’s not good to have them thrown back at you. We’ve
made some errors, but I believe the result is a better manual. The next
editors will make it better yet.

Rick, In the list of outstanding sections, there is intercommunications. I think this might be better termed "Import/Export" as the section is about transferring Routes, Waypoints & Tracks between OpenCPN and peers or other devices. From a quick perusal, there are a few errors and omissions, for example there is little mention of NMEA 0183 WPL sentences, other than implied in "send to GPS". There should be some discussion about Garmin mode (although from the recent fixes, it doesn't appear that many use it). BTW, Most Garmin devices can also receive waypoints via NMEA 0183 WPL sentences. (In fact most commercial chartplotters can). Also as GPX is a valuable tool for importing and exporting, there is no real introduction to what a GPX file is. There should be a simple paragraph that states "GPS Exchange Format (GPX) is a file format that enables devices to transfer GPS data (waypoints routes and tracks) with one another. GPX files are text files formatted using Extensible Markup Language (XML). Modern commercial chartplotters such as Garmin, Raymarine, Navico (B&G, Simrad, Lowrance), Furuno and many applications such as Navionics and Coastal Explorer support GPX." More details about the GPX file format can be found at https://www.topografix.com/" The latter section that describes the elements of the GPX file is good. |

Oh, I was thinking about the naming suggested. Letting it perc. Not exactly true. Send to GPS is not import/export at all IMO. Nor is Send to Peer. Do I have a better title? That's the problem - I don't. Other Ideas: We can leave as-is (Import-Export) or try Sharing (kind of popular in apps that share position updates amongst peers). I've added an intro section to Use GPX (thanks, good suggestion). |

For me as not native Eng speaker (Routes..) Import/Export is clear and a good intuitive understanding what to expect when entering into that part. |

Looks good to me John! Looks like it Is done. Thanks for a great job on all those pages. I will change the underlying namespace name and search for all instances of import-export and intercommunication in the text and make those changes to the links. |

This is for discussion about the Opencpn User Manual Basic DocuWiki
Please see Editor 2024 Status & Progress Page Which will be kept current. Updated 5/22/2024
Please this Editing Left to Do List
We have many pages in Toobar > Manage Routes, and Chart Panel that need work. We need to focus on getting these pages done.
Nine User Volunteers (Now 10), will be updating all of TOOLBAR and CHART PANEL
Starting with the screenshots and checking and editing DOWN the text. Lets hope this goes well as they are all new volunteer Editors, but seem to be capable.
User Manual - Documentation needed #2967
