Hi, first of all I see this is not a bug report / issue. If you have a question about ITensor, we are happy to answer your questions on our support forum: http://itensor.org/support/ or via email.

Next, may I ask what is a .tns file? Is this a format used by a certain tensor library? It is not a file format I am aware of or used by ITensor.

Finally, I am not sure what you are asking about needing to create a tensor by yourself. Could you clarify?

Currently ITensor has some support for writing individual tensors and structures like MPS to HDF5 files. We are planning to complete this feature in the near future (next few months).
